These Paths We Travel
This series of work is a response to unpublished research that explored concepts of belonging and home for British migrants in Melbourne, Australia. Following interview transcript analysis that suggested that British migrants in this context found the suburbs of the city, rather than their houses, homely, a methodology of walking, affective attunement, and documentary photography was developed to explore them. This series of photographs is the outcome of strategies that built an inventive methodology for getting closer to a sense of British belonging in suburban Melbourne. They are framed as affective encounters with whiteness, and act as an archive of (un)familiarity in suburban Melbourne from which further research projects are developing.
